When we last checked in, we were in Michigan and headed to North Carolina. We retired out of North Carolina and return every year for doctor and dental visits, annual mammogram etc. The trip was long and uneventful. We arrived at the NC Fairgrounds in Raleigh and took up residency for 2 weeks. No pictures. When you return to “home” there isn’t much you think to take a picture of :)
We spent those 2 weeks at appointments, doing some Craigslist buying and selling, stocking up at Costco and in Rick’s case, having a crown and an on-lay prepped.
Because it takes 3 weeks for dental lab work to be completed, we took off for the NC Mountains for a break in between appointments.
We are staying at Lake Powhatan Recreation Area in Asheville, NC. This is a beautiful park, heavily wooded, and just outside Asheville. Our site is totally shaded, creating a cozy area but a disaster if you’re trying to get satellite reception on Premiere Week! We have spent the last 4 years using our crank-up antenna only. This past summer we broke down and got Direct TV and when we can’t get a signal, it’s a disappointment. But wait! We still have our crank up antenna! We’ll get something. For us, it is PBS and ABC. Unfortunately, the shows we were most looking forward to were on CBS :) Oh well. Reruns will happen :)
In the meantime, we are also Internet challenged…but workable. If we connect our Jetpack to our Sleek Booster, we can boost our signal from 1 bar 1X to 3 bars 3G. That may not sound like much, but it’s awesome compared to 2 weeks of NOTHING :) So, this post is picture-less :)
We’ve hiked the park and surrounding area. We’ve walked the Asheville Urban Trail and spent time at the Visitor’s Center planning further excursions.
We’ve eaten at a wonderful restaurant downtown, Salsa’s. We highly recommend it! In fact, I’m pretty sure we will try it again…soon :)
We have plans for some hiking, some kayaking and some fishing…oh, and some micro-brewery tasting :)
Stay tuned. Thanks for stopping by.
