My Brother-in-law, Vern, thought he’d like to try his hand at fishing in the gulf while he was here. We thought he meant a deep sea fishing trip but all he really wanted to do was fish off shore and see what he might catch. After a little research, he found that he could rent a rod and tackle from “Keepers” located at the Horace Caldwell Pier. You had to fish off the pier with the rented rod so we thought we’d walk down there and see if anyone was catching anything. There were about a half dozen people fishing and in the 5-10 minutes we were there, 4 fish were caught. Cool.
This fellow kept an eye on us as we approached :)
This guy was here with his entire family but he was the only one who posed pretty.
The fish being caught were all Whiting. They were small but we figured a few of them would make a good grilled fish dinner!
Before leaving the pier to get the gear, we watched a lady fillet her Whiting and feed the carcass to our friend, Mr. Pelican.
Note the fish in his mouth.
Two glubs…and gone!
While Vern got his one day, out of state license and rented his gear, Sheila and I put our loungers out in the Sand and plopped down to do some reading. Unfortunately, although temps were in the mid 70’s, the clouds kept moving in and it turned out to be a little chilly with the stiff breeze. We took a break and walked down to see how many fish we’d be cooking for dinner.
They don’t look too happy, do they? No fish for us today. About the only one having any luck was this surfer out there! We enjoyed watching him. He rode some great waves coming in.
Well, the fishing was a bust but the day was still fun and we finished it off with a nice dinner at Castaways, just down the street.
Thanks for stopping by.
