A Day Off

Took the day off today. I didn't accomplish too much. I dropped off our completed applications and a check at the apartment complex and then went trikking in Cary with friends Howard and Bev. On the way back, I stopped at the complex again, saw the actual apartment we are moving into and picked up the lease.

We need to read all 20 pages of it, sign and initial and bring it back Tuesday to get the keys. Things sure have changed. Leases used to be 2 pages back when I was renting in the olden days :)

After a few hours in the sun, I was very tired. I came home, fixed myself something to eat and vegged on the sofa the rest of the evening.

Tomorrow I have to get serious again.

Craigslist day

Today was Craigslist day! I sold our dressers and mirrors and lamps, the living room lamps, the bonus room cabinets, the steamer trunk and 2 rattan side chairs. Yay! A bigger Yay is that everyone that said they were coming actually came!

The consignment shop will take the dining room set, a large painting and the leather chair. They'll also take the kitchen table if the buyers don't want it. I'll have them come pick that stuff up next week.

Rick went to Swansboro for a trikking weekend with the group and a pig-out oyster fest :)  He really needed a weekend to de-stress and I hope the weather holds for him. He'll be able to do several rides and attend the oyster roast.

The buyers got in touch this afternoon with their list of things they wanted pricing for. I hope we can come to a mutual agreement on all the things. It will save us much work and them, much money.

Apartment Shopping

Apartment shopping today. Boy, have things changed!
Availability is very limited right now. It's also very difficult to rent for 3 months but I did find a complex willing to do that. Unfortunately, their smallest apartment (which we wanted to try to transition) has one availability for right now and another opening on May 1. That's too late for us. So guess I'll call them tomorrow and reserve the one that's available right now. We wanted to rent in that particular area so we'd be close to the  American Tobacco Trail and could trikke in the evenings.

I also called a local consignment shop, to see about placing the dining room set and maybe some other things with them. They told me to take pictures of the items and email them to them. They would then review and get in touch with me. We shall see.

It was quite a weekend!

Well the waters didn't get muddier with another offer, but it was back and forth with both all day Saturday. One stood firm, one countered but at the end of the day, on the advice of our agent, we countered one final time.

Since we did not have a signed contract yet, we got another showing on Sunday and guess what? They, too, are making an offer. Whew! What a rush! That offer was easy to accept with no counter. It was slightly over asking with no contingencies etc. They have 20% to put down and qualify for a conventional loan.

It was after midnight by the time all the papers were signed and sealed. The inspection is Wed. at 1:00 pm and then I have an appt. with the buyers to discuss any possible items they may be interested in purchasing. Yeah! Much less work for me :)

Offers on the house

The real estate market seems to be alive and well in Durham, NC! Received an offer this morning from the first buyers removing the contingency. Before we could counter, we were notified that last nights buyers also wanted to make an offer :) Can't hardly believe that we're going to have a bidding war! Awesome!

We have requested that both parties submit to us their best offer. We'll make a decision tomorrow. We also have another showing at 8:30 tomorrow morning. Who knows? Maybe the waters will get muddier :)

Second Showing

We had our second showing this afternoon. It was a spur of the moment showing. Our agent, Cindie, called to see if it would be ok to show it in 20 minutes. Luckily, I had done my thing in the morning and was ready :) I turned on all the lights, changed out of my sweats and took off!
The feedback was excellent. Apparently, their kids go to school right down the road. They know some of the neighbors. They know and go to church with the neighbors across the street and knew we were going to sell it all and go RVing! They loved the house. I anticipate another offer in the next day or so. Hope I'm not wrong. These people do NOT have a house to sell :) They are renting with the lease up in 3 months. We shall see...

A BIG box for Sis!

Finally packed up all the odds and ends I intend to send to my sister. It's one big, honkin' box and weighs in at 30#. Luckily, I was able to print the label and postage online so the mailman will just pick it up tomorrow. It's almost too large for me to haul to the post office myself :)

I mailed my notarized retirement options paperwork today. Hopefully, that will result in a check later this month. :)

Our new printer/scanner/copier arrived this morning. It's still in the box. I'll have to get it set up soon so I can start scanning "stuff".

House offer and offer declined

Received and turned down the first offer on our house today. It was contingent on their sale and they hadn't even put it on the market yet. We'll see what happens next. Apparently, daddy owns a bank or some such thing :)

My New Job

Now that the house is on the market and "most" of the big stuff has been done, I feel a little lost. I still have some things to ship and other things to list on Craigslist, but that deadline intensity is gone.  The last 6 months have consumed me painting, purging, recycling, donating, selling and trying to keep my head on straight amongst it all :)

My main job right now is keeping the house in pristine shape so we can welcome a showing any time with little or no notice. I will tire of that quickly. Sure hope it sells fast! Actually, sure hope we get a showing soon :)

House For Sale!

The sign went up in the front yard this morning. It's official!
