Second date with friends

We had a very nice time today meeting up with another future rv'ing couple we had met last year around this same time. We met Jim and Denyce at Southpoint Mall and went to Champs for lunch. The food was just ok but the company was lively and fun. It's nice to visit with people that have the same interests as you. Here's the 4 of us at the restaurant. That's them on the left.
Denyce and I might try to do some geo-caching together as neither of the guys have an interest.
I think it sounds like fun. There are thousands of caches hidden all over the world just for the finding. You don't actually take the cache but sign and date the log book proving you found it. Most of it is done with GPS co-ordinates and Denyce has a handheld GPS unit she uses. She publishes her own blog at

BIG snow anniversary!

Today marks 8 years since we woke up to 20" of snow. What a morning that was! What was predicted to be a "light dusting" when we went to bed the night before, became the hugest snowfall in our recordable history (dates back to 1893). It was beautiful, it was fun and it paralyzed this area for 3 weeks. Not something I'd want to repeat any time soon.

Will the old stock market please come back!

On my way to work this morning, I heard that the Fed had dropped interest rates 3/4 of a percent. For whatever reason, I took this as a good sign and hoped the stock market would look favorably on this. Boy, was I wrong! The market began with a 465 point plunge! It teeter tottered all day and finally ended down "only" 128 points!
It may be because we are so close to retirement that this alarms me but this really alarms me.
I want my "old" stock market back!

On another note, go see The Bucket List. You'll enjoy it :)

Sports, Cold and MLK

Our 2 favorite teams both lost this weekend. Our UNC Tarheels fell to Maryland 82-80 on Saturday after winning 18 straight. They had been #1 in the country all season so far. I'm sure that will change this week. Yesterday, our Packers fell to the NY Giants 23-20 in the NFC championship game and lost a chance at the Superbowl. Very disappointing on both counts!

Temps are still frigid for this area. We haven't been above freezing since Saturday. It's supposed to get to 39 today but currently is only 28. At least the sun is shining :)

MLK holiday today so going to get some shopping done at Costco and go see a movie.

I'm quite proud of myself for posting so many days in a row. I wonder if I'll keep it up :)
I follow several blogs and only a few can make each entry interesting and worth reading. I'd like to think of this as practice for the "real thing" once we get out there. We shall see :)

Snow, cold and movies

Well, the snow event gave us a "dusting" at most. The neighbors rooftops are white but not much more. Most on the ground melted before the temps dropped. Today, the temps are turning frigid and windy. It feels cold just looking out the window :)

As this is a holiday weekend, (MLK) we're going to try to fit in a movie sometime before it's over. Last weekend we saw Charlie Wilson's War...very good. This time around, it'll be The Bucket List.

It actually, really snowed today. This is amazing because our weatherman, Greg Fishel, predicts snow frequently but it never happens :) Now, this is not to say that it's much of a snow, but there is some white stuff sticking to the grass. I guess we'll know the full story in the morning.

A wet winter day

Cold and rainy today but at least we didn't get the wintery mix they'd predicted. It's been a long time since I've posted anything here. We're still on track to follow our plan though. The countdown clock has gone below 1000 days! Amazing! Sure wish the stock market would co-operate though. It plunged another 300+ points today. I need to stop watching it. It makes me crazy.
